Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! Valentine’s day has always been one of my favorite holidays. My dad always “surprises” me with flowers and a gift in the morning and my mom used to cut my sandwich into little hearts when I was in school. I always loved picking out the perfect box of Valentine’s cards and hand addressing them to each person at school. I love the idea of a day where you get to show people in small ways how much you love them.
Valentine’s day is not just a day for couples and fancy dinners. It’s a day to write a note, give out candy, and remind the special people in your life how much you love them! Checkout some of this years Valentine’s day themed photos below, including the my outfit for the day and Bendel’s Valentine!
Well I’m a little late to the game on my first monthly recap, but better late than never right? I set a goal at the beginning of the year to recap each month with some of my favorite things or fun adventures. I clearly don’t have a definite plan on the structure of these posts, but hey, you gotta start somewhere.
What I’m reading
I finished the 7th and final book in the Throne of Glass series and cannot recommend this series enough. It’s an fantasy fiction series perfect for anyone who has convinced themselves that reading is boring. (I may or may not have cried when I finished this book).
What I’m watching:
I started the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and I am hooked. Its available on Amazon prime, and I definitely binged 3 seasons in 2 weeks. The outfits are amazing. I’m convinced Julia Engal helped design them all.
On my radar:
Blue light glasses. If you follow my Instagram stories you know that I am in love with my blue light glasses. They have significantly decresead my eye strain and headaches from staring at the computer. (Shop my frames here).
January’s irrational purchase:
Hopefully this is not a monthly segment. I impulse bought the new KJP sweetheart dress and I have no regrets. The bow is detachable!
If you were expecting a serious list of achievements for the month you will not find it here. This is more of mini personal goals I’ve set and am going to post on here to try and hold myself accountable. (Shoutout to all 10 of you who read this).
January’s goal: Drink less Starbucks. I recently joined the real adult world and figured out how to use a coffee machine. Well, not really, I got a Kureig. I’ve been forcing myself to make my coffee at home rather than spend the 5+ dollars every morning on Starbucks. Update: I’m doing way better than I expected. I think mostly because the Kureig is still new and exciting and I bought myself a cute coffee mug.
Thank you all for reading and stay tuned for the next monthly recap!
When I first started my blog I had it in my mind that I needed to keep it completely separate from Bendel. She has her own fame on her own and I wanted this to be focused on my style and life. I shortly realized this was impossible. Bendel is such a huge part of my life, and I always receive so many questions and comments about her. I decided to start a separate page on my site called “Bendel’s Corner” where I share all things Bendel girl.
To kick off this new part of my site I thought I would do 14 facts about Bendel, one for each dog year she’s been alive:
She’s a snob. I didn’t think it was possible for a dog to be snobby, but Bendel has proved me wrong. She is very serious a lot of the time. Living with her is like living with a cool roommate who is sometimes kind of mean to you.
She’s slightly Instagram famous with over 11k followers and sponsorships with Chewy, Petsmart, and other awesome companies.
She’s a hunting dog. For those of you who are not familiar with the breed, Bendel is a German Shorthaired Pointer. If it moves, she’s on it. She will have staring contests with almost any creature and sneak up on them no matter how long it takes. Her favorite way to torture me is to catch live lizards in her mouth and drop them in my lap.
She’s a sleeper. Don’t get me wrong she has tons of energy, but when she’s done she is absolutely done. She will put herself to bed no matter what we’re doing. She also always has to sleep under a blanket.
She loves the water. If there is water Bendel is in it. Puddle, pool, ocean, creek, a random person’s sprinklers…. she’s not picky.
She’s horrified of children. They make her super nervous, and she wants absolutely nothing to do with them.
She doesn’t fetch. It’s not that she doesn’t know how, it’s that she doesn’t like it. She would much rather spend her outdoor time exploring and chasing things than bringing a tennis ball back and forth.
She hates when you cover your face. Not quite sure why, but anytime I cover my face she freaks out, pounces on me, and starts crying. I’ll admit it is fun to mess with her sometimes.
She’s great in the car. Once were on the highway she will sleep the entire ride and never make a peep!
She has tons of friends and always runs the show wherever she goes. She’s the cool girl at school I never was.
She’s fast. Probably the fastest dog at the dog park, or any park for that matter. The only dog that has been able to completely outrun her was our neighbor’s retired racing greyhound.
She loves to be naked. By naked I mean without a collar, leash, bandana anything. I have a no collar rule in the house, and she holds me to it. If I leave her collar on she’ll follow me around staring at me until I take it off.
She’s smart. She knows exactly what she wants when she wants it. She’ll bury things in the couch, and if you move them when she’s not looking she’ll go back DAYS later to retrieve it and throw a fit when its not there. If you tell her your going to do something like go on the boat or swim by the pool she will absolutely hold you to it.
She’s a snuggler and a stage 5 clinger. This is my absolute favorite thing about Bendel. She is not an overly affectionate dog. Its rare to get a lick or to much attention from her, but when she’s tired she insists on snuggling up to you as close as she can possibly get. (I’m typing this one handed as she has put all 50 pounds of her body weight on my other). She’s definitely outgrown lapdog status but I don’t have the heart to tell her.
I hope everyone enjoyed getting to know Bendel! Stay tuned for more pupdates and behind the scenes of living with a famous diva dog.
One of my goals for the blog this year is to recap my trips more thoroughly. Sharing our favorites activities and the not so great ones. I want to create more helpful and honest travel recaps, because I know the first thing I do when I go to a new city is google places to go, things to eat, and most importantly the best photo ops.
I’m starting my first trip recap with my most recent trip to North Carolina. Now I know Waynesville may not be a highly visited area, but I need to start somewhere.
Activities, other than snow sports, are a bit difficult to come by here, so we had to get creative. Here are some of our favorites:
Asheville outlets: They have all of the common outlet stores but the best part was the Dillard’s. I didn’t know outlet Dillard’s existed, but I am hooked. I found two Draper James dresses for under $20!
Tube World: My family and I have this terrible tradition of going to tube world every year, and not tubing. Not because it isn’t a good time, but because we discovered a different slightly mean tradition. Every year we pull into the parking lot of tube world and watch people for about an hour or so crash, fall, knock each other over etc. It’s absolutely terrible, but also absolutely a good time.
Cataloochee Ski: Skiing was the main pull for our trip, and Maggie Valley is our favorite spot. Before anyone tries to tell me that skiing in North Carolina isn’t real skiing, try and remember that I’m from Florida. Maggie Valley is a cute little ski area with a few runs, and an extremely relaxed environment! I reccommend getting there about a half an hour before the slopes open so you can pay, grab your gear and hit the slopes before it gets too crowded.
Pisgah National Forest & Devils Courthouse: A very manageable hiking trail, for those of us who are not professionals, with an amazing view. The best part? Bendel got to tag along!
Mast General Store: a must stop for any sweet tooth. They have the cutest old fashioned candy store downstairs! There are also a bunch of other adorable shops around this one. Most are dog friendly!
Kandi’s cakes & Bake Shop: I debated putting this on the activities or food list. Kandi’s is an adorable bakery with perfect photo ops and delicious pastries!
Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery: A must stop for any pet parent. They make the treats in store!
Dining on Vacation is one of my family’s highlights. On the 12 hour car ride in we ate Chick fil a for every meal; judge us all you want. Just to give you an idea of how serious we take our food we waited in line at Biscuit Head for over 45 minutes just to see what all of the hype was about. Update: it was AMAZING.
Our favorite restaurants in the area are:
Sweet Onion – a steakhouse style restaurant that makes all of their desserts in house!
Biscuit Head – I recommend the mimosa fried chicken biscuit. Apparently sweet potato butter was a thing I didn’t know I needed in my life.
Moose Café – Casual southern food with the best chicken and dumplings!
Frankie’s – the pizza was amazing. They have a ton of different Italian entrée options, but the highlight of our meal was the desert!
J. Arthurs – a classic NC place. We’ve been going here ever since I can remember and I have yet to have a bad meal. The French onion soup is a must!
Our Not – so – favorite restaurants in the area are:
Sauced – if you know what bowling alley pizza tastes like, then I don’t need to say anything else.
Maggie Valley b
Fat Buddies – great debate in my family on where to place this on our list, but when it comes to BBQ in North Carolina I think we all agreed we could do better.
Smoky Mountain Sub Shop – I may be biased but nothing compares to a Publix sub (if you know then you know).
I would love to hear any recommendations you may have! Happy Traveling!
Ski season is officially here! For a Florida girl I’ve acquired quite the ski gear collection over the years, and I wanted to share my favorites! If you’re like me and only have the chance to ski once a year, my recommendation is to buy solid neutral colored ski pants and a jacket. I’ve had my jacket and pants for years and mix up my look with different hats, gloves and goggles.
Shop all of my favorites by hovering over the photo and clicking on the product! I’ve also linked all of my favorites in my new Amazon storefront!
I’ve also added some of my favorite ski trip photos to get you in the Ski-son spirit!
Well I’m slightly late to the game on the resolution post, but not procrastinating wasn’t one of my resolutions so I’m technically still on the right track.
If you came to this post hoping to read some serious resolutions, you’ve come to the wrong place. I’m not a huge fan of resolutions. I think at any point in the year you can make changes, or set goals. My personal mini goals for 2019 are:
Read more books. ( Starting off easy because I love reading.)
Spend more time with Bendel.
Buy clothes I like, not clothes I feel pressured into buying to link for the blog.
Drink more water (lame but true).
Curb my Starbucks addiction/ Teach myself to enjoy black coffee.
Write more blog posts!
Post more iphone photos. Lately I’ve fallen into a “I have to have my camera trap” and been disappointed if I only have a photo from my phone. My iphone photos still capture the fun of the moment and take way less time to take allowing me to live more in the moment of things. My favorite photo of 2018 was even taken on my iPhone!
Polish my editing skills.
Try new food recipes.
Take spontaneaous trips. Ending it on this one because I absolutely know I can stick to this.
I told myself I wasn’t going to write a Black Friday finds post since they seem to be absolutely everywhere, yet here I am on a post thanksgiving dessert table sugar high writing this post. I’m sharing some of my favorites below, but be warned this is probably not the most extensive Black Friday deal post since I’m writing it hours before Black Friday starts. Enjoy!
I’ve officially found the coziest pjs of the season. I had the lucky opportunity to try out Lands End’s Monnogram cozy Christmas pajamas and I am obsessed. The material is so soft and the quality is amazing. There are also multiple monogram style options so that you can make your pjs perfectly personalized. I have a feeling Christmas shopping is going to be easy thanks to Land’s End.
Land’s End has been having some amazing sales, and I have found myself constantly browsing their site. I wanted to share some of my favorites below, as well as items that would make great gifts! I love the quality of Land’s End and the classic styles they offer. The best part? Every item is under $50! Just hover over the item on the photo below to shop! Happy Shopping!
